Fighting the last dictatorship

It is amazing that we still in the heart of Europe have a disgusting dictatorship like Belarus. How come! Have we all been too passive, too indifferent, too laissez-faire! Democracy, human rights, freedom of the media are matters for everybody. Nobody should be allowed to run for cover behind a smokescreen of "national sovereignty" and do to their people what they like.

The events over the last few days in Minsk must be the final wake-up call for us all to do all we can to help democracy prevail. The brave opposition leaders and young people who took the risk by demonstrating deserve all our support. And not just lip-service. REAL help.

The elections in neighbouring Ukraine yesterday was a very good example of how a new democracy works. Democracy is not about WHO wins. It's about everybody playing according to the real rules of real democracy.

Let also that give the Lukashenkos of this world a good lesson!

All democratic forces - unite!
